181.                 cidaMbaraM ca dRktatvaM manAMsi vyApya susthitaM /    tadeva dRzyarUpeNa antaryAmitayA punaH  //

 

Chidambaram (the place, the temple, the space of Consciousness)  is the Consciousness principle that pervades our minds ever. That can be seen externally and also internally.

 

182.                 atad-asat--sphUrtidaM ca svAdhyastA-vyapavAdakRt / atad-dharmair-asaMspRSTaH  aham-evoM-tatsaditi //

 

I cognize the falsity of the non-self. I negate the superimposition on the Self. I am untouched by the dharmas of the non-self. I am Om tat sat.

 

183.                 kUlAvidyA-vRtA mUDhAH doSAn-Aropayanti te /                          nirduSTE sarva-sAmye ca duSTatvAt svasvabhAvataH //

 

Foolish people overcome by ignorance, themselves faulty by nature, attribute faults to the equanimous and faultless (Absolute).

 

184.                 atadbhAvA bhAva-draSTA dRG-mAtratvena zobhate / dRzya-lokAMs-tirodhAya amUrto vizva-rUpataH //

 

The blaze of the formless Consciousness, manifests as the Seer of both beiung and non-being of the non-self, nullifies the seen universe but still shows itself as the cosmic universe.

 

185.                 rAkSasInAM madhya eva sItA dRSTir-manonmanI /  kalAtItA bhagavatI vidyul-lekheva bhAsate //

186.                 apAra-zaktimad-buddhiM samyag-darzana-niSTayA/  bhagavad-dharmam-Azritya  svetarasyApy-upekSakI //

187.                 yA brahma-cAriNi buddhiH  samyag-dRSTimatI bhavet

 

Focusing her extraordinarily powerful intellect through Right Perception, indifferent to anything but the Self, having recourse to the dharma sanctioned by the Lord, the transcendent Sita, herself the personification of mind-elevating Vision,  shines as a streak of lightning, even among the Rakshasis. Her Intellect was constantly dwelling on Brahman; so no doubt the Perception was always the Right One.

 

avyAhata-mano-vegAt zrImAn vaTu-zikhAgraNIH //

188.                 dRgjyotir-brAhmaNenaiva zikhA-rUpeNa dhAryate /              zikhA-madhye tapaj-jyotiH brahma-jyotir-iti zrutaM  //

 

Faster than Mind is this best of brahma-cAris. The Brahmin carries in his tuft of hair the blaze of Consciousness. Right in the center of  the zikhA, it is said, there is  the Flame of tapas, namely, the Light of the Absolute.[1]

 

189.                 dRzi-rUpam-ahaM jyotiH ihAsaM pUrvam-eva[2] ca / anAdy-antam-ahaM tatvaM antar-bahir-avasthitaM //

 

I am the Light in the form of Consciousness. I was here before anything else. I am the beginningless, endless principle, which is within or without.

 

190.                 aham-asmi prathamajAH svetarat-tad-anantaraM /              dAnaM yac-ca dvayApekSaM advaitaM khanDayatyaho //

 

I am the One who was first-born. Anything other than Me is later .  Even the concept of giving away which requires two for the process is a disapproval of duality.

 

191.                 iti bhAna-nirAsArthaM etan-mantraM pravartitaM / dAtA prati-gRhiteti zrutA kAmasya kartRtA //

 

To counter this appearance (of duality) one remembers the mantra: The Maker gives, the Maker Receives.  The Vedas point to kAma (Desire)[3] as the Doer, and the Progenitor for the doing.

 

192.                 sanAtanam-ahaM jyotiH tat-sRSTaM tasya rUpakaM /           tasmAc-ca dIyate sarvaM svena svasmai samarpitaM //

 

I am the Light Eternal. What was created by It is of the same form. Therefore it is,  that,  when we give something to somebody, it is nothing but an offering   by oneself to oneself.

 

193.                 iti brahmArpaNaM gItaM advaitatvasya rakSaNe / sarvAkAre ca dRg-rUpe buddhi-dharmAH pravartitAH //

 

That is why the gItA talks of ‘brahma-arpaNam brahma haviH …’ , so that no damage is done to the advaita. All the goings-on attributed to the intellect take place, under the universal canopy of Consciousness.

 

194.                 dRgAtmA buddhy-atItaz-ca tad-aspRSTa-svarUpataH / pUrvaM devebhya iti ca svarUpAc-cApi bhinnatA //

 

The Absolute Consciousness is beyond the intellect; not amenable to objectification. It is different from all objectification. (Recall) I was there even before all the (immortal) divines.[4]

 

195.                 krodhAdInAM sthApyate ca Atmaikya-jyotiSA punaH /  yo mA dadAti mantreNa guru-ziSyAdi-bhAvataH //

 

One halts  evils like anger by the Light of the Atman and  by the mantra: ‘He who gives me away, (he alone preserves Me)’[5]  ; and by the attitude of guru and disciple.
